Report on celebration of International Women’s Day: The Department of English and the NSS Unit of GDC Qazigund jointly organized a programme to commemorate International Women’s Day. The event was attended by Prof. Aufaq Ahmad Zargar (Principal), Prof. Showkat Ahmad Malik (NSS Programme Coordinator and HoD Education), Prof. Rameez Ahmad Shah (HoD Environmental Science), Prof. Nehad Kaniz Fatima (HoD English) along with other faculty members and students. Prof. Nehad Kaniz Fatima provided a detailed account of the historical origins of International Women’s Day, tracing its evolution as a global movement for women's rights. She also highlighted the 2025 theme of “Accelerate Action” and stressed that while progress has been made, there remain significant challenges that require sustained efforts in ensuring women's rights and empowerment. Dr. Meenaza (Faculty,Sociology) delivered an insightful lecture on women’s rights, addressing various socio-political dimensions of gender equality. This was followed by Umaisa (2nd sem), who spoke about women’s rights from a religious perspective, offering a nuanced discussion on the intersection of faith and gender justice. As part of the programme, a book recommendation video featuring significant works on gender studies and women's empowerment was presented to the students. Subsequently, Dr. Ab. Waheed (Faculty, Education) elaborated on the importance of implementing women’s rights as enshrined in legal and religious frameworks, reinforcing the necessity of translating theoretical rights into lived realities. The programme was successfully concluded, leaving the participants with a deeper understanding of the historical, legal, and cultural aspects of women’s rights. The event reaffirmed the commitment of GDC Qazigund to fostering awareness and advocacy for gender equality.
