An Awareness program on essential lifesaving skills held by NSS Unit of the college in collaboration with SDRF Qazigund
15-05-2024: An Awareness Programme/Workshop on First Aid, MFR (Medical First Responder), CPR (Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation) and Fire Fighting were held on 15th of May 2024. The Programme was held by the NSS Unit GDC Qazigund in collaboration with the SDRF Rescue Team Qazigund. The initiative aimed to equip attendees with essential life-saving skills. In his message to the audience, the esteemed Principal G.R. Verma underscored the vital significance of the SDRF and its pivotal role in safeguarding both lives and property during disasters. The event commenced with an opening address by Prof. Showkat Ahmad Malik, the Programme Officer for NSS Unit GDC Qazigund. Members of the SDRF Rescue Team Qazigund then engaged the audience, shedding light on recent natural and man- made disasters that have impacted the region of J&K. 

They emphasized strategies for minimizing human casualties during emergencies such as earthquakes, floods, and road accidents. Practical demonstrations illustrated how individuals can become proficient medical first responders in crisis situations. The SDRF team imparted various first aid techniques and CPR demonstrations, encouraging active participation from the students. Through hands-on activities and drills, attendees were able to apply their newfound knowledge and skills. The staff including Prof. Aufaq Ahmad Zargar (H.O.D Computer Science), Prof. Rameez Ahmad Shah(H.O.D Environmental Science) and Prof. Nehad Kaniz Fatima (H.O.D English) emphasized the importance of disaster preparedness through active participation in training sessions and demonstrations. Additionally, an outdoor fire safety drill addressed the protocol for handling gas leaks in domestic settings, fostering a proactive approach to preventing hazards. Overall, the program served as a valuable opportunity for students to enhance their preparedness and response capabilities in the face of emergencies.
